The Birds vs. The Beards - 2013 World Series Facts

  •
Opened in 1912, Fenway Park is the oldest baseball park in the United States and home to the Boston Red Sox. It's known for its weird angles and strange dimensions – not to mention the "Green Monster," the 37-foot wall in left field. Fans love the stadium, but for visiting teams it’s a little different. The Cardinals haven’t visited Boston since 2008, and things might get a little tricky.

It's going to be a hairy matchup. For worse or for better, almost everyone playing in the series seems to be growing a beard. Mike Napoli's beard has a name – The Siesta
  •
This is likely the last World Series where instant replay isn't available for almost every call. Next year, the MLB will have review available for just about everything but balls and strikes.
  •
Both the Cardinals and the Red Sox have some young players on the squad. Michael Wacha, 22, of the Cardinals has become an October ace. The Sox’s Xander Bogaerts is only 21, and is one of the game’s top fresh talents.

Last year's World Series drew the lowest TV ratings ever when the San Francisco Giants swept the Detroit Tigers. Will you watch this year?
  •
The Red Sox have played against the St. Louis Cardinals four times in the World Series.
  •
Boston has won eight straight World Series games after not winning for more than 80 years.
  •
When the Red Sox broke the "Curse of the Bambino" and won the Series, it was against the Cardinals.
  •
The earliest time for a World Series game this year is 8:07 p.m. (EST). But it wasn’t always a late-night affair. The first scheduled night game for a World Series happened in 1971.

NOVEMBER BASEBALL? Not this year. If the series goes the full seven games, it will end on Oct. 31
