Jet the K9 Officer can go after the bad guys, but understands when a toddler just wants to love on him! Photo by Deputy Shawn Rosner.
  •
I got to spend some time with Jet, too. What a magnificent creature! We wish his colleague Bodie well. Donate to Bodie's recovery expenses at www.spdk9.org
  •
Ben Vereen was one of the entertainers for the Dr. Oz event and was outstanding! Full of energy!
  •
What can I say? Ben and I just had a connection!
  •
Real-life hero Capt. Sully Sullenberger at the Dr. Oz event in Sacramento. What a gentleman.
  •
Dr. Oz was an incredibly open and approachable guy. Very generous with his time.
  •
Took a trip to eastern Europe. This is the New York Cafe in Budapest, Hungary. It used to be a gathering place for writers in years past.
  •
    A bridge in Budapest
  •
Budapest is actually two cities joined by bridges. From the hills in Buda you look down on Pest.
  •
Vienna is home of the Sachertorte so I forced my husband to go to the Sacher Hotel to try the original. It's not that great...dry and surpassed by most chocolate cakes of today.
  •
So many views are like fairytale scenes
  •
In all cities we visited...Budapest, Vienna, and Prague, the beautiful buildings were all lit up at night.
  •
One of the main squares in Prague was packed for the Easter holiday.
  •
There are so many decorations for Easter in public areas...like this tree!
  •
This KFBK listener surely stays warm with this group. A 4-Dog night, but each of these dogs counts as two!
  •
Betty White just celebrated her 90-th birthday to great fanfare. She came to Sacramento 2 years ago to visit the Sacramento SPCA and I got to have lunch with her. She is so kind and wonderful!
  •
Thank you to the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce for awarding me "Carmichael Person of the Year." With husband Kurt Spataro.

  •
Dina Eastwood and I were presenters at the 2011 Hall of Fame awards 12/8/11. I also had the honor of being the backstage announcer they call "Voice of God." Pretty cool!
  •
Her husband Clint was signing autographs. He's a great guy!
  •
Mayor Kevin Johnson read the Citation inducting Magic Johnson into the Hall of Fame and they rushed to greet each other.
  •
Inductee Carlos Santana looked sharp but gave a rambling and confusing acceptance speech.
  •
At an after-party, Magic Johnson voiced his support for Mayor Kevin Johnson.
  •
Then, Gov and Mrs. Brown joined them!
  •
The California Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2007. Steve Jobs in trademark blue jeans and black turtleneck is first on the left by Tiger Woods.
  •
The new Terminal B at Sacramento International has some incredible art pieces. These frames change in color and subject.
  •
The most famous piece is the Red Rabbit by artist Lawrence Argent. Some have complained about the art but I personally think it's a wonderful addition. The art was less than 1% of the budget.
  •
It's quite spectacular and will become a focal point of SMF!
  •
I was told the rabbit was chosen because there are so many of them in the fields around the airport.
  •
My favorite is this chandelier in the eating area on the "airside." You have to have a ticket and take the people mover to get there.
  •
Nearby is this amazing sculpture that "hears' words that travelers type into internet devices and turns them into sound.
  •
In the eating area, hubby Chef Kurt Spataro opens Esquire Grill with business partner Randy Paragary. It's the only full service airport restaurant. On left, my friend Susan Bitar.
  •
Dale Carlson and Kelly Brothers dressed as pirates for the Sleep Train's golf tournament to help foster kids.
  •
Tom Sullivan flew back from New York to Emcee Perspectives 2011. He stopped by the KFBK studios in the afternoon. He is missed in Sacramento!
  •
Labor Day weekend 2001 we went to London with some friends. A few days later the world changed on 9/11.
  •
On 9/14 a service was held at St. Paul's Cathedral. The massive church was filled to capacity so the crowds flowed into the streets.
  •
The view behind me. People everywhere--all quiet and respectful during the service.
  •
All the surrounding streets were filled.
  •
The FDR monument became a place for mourners to come.
  •
Shopkeepers put the Stars and Stripes in their windows.
  •
A year later, we visited Ground Zero in NYC. The gates of the church nearby were filled with items of sympathy.
  •
All four sides of the church were filled. Such unity.
  •
Muffin, a cat who belongs to a Grass Valley family who moved to Jakarta. THe kitty got stuck and somehow survived being locked in a 20’ shipping container for 48 days with no food or water.
  •
Muffin was too weak to stand or even eat or drink. No one, including the veterinarian could believe that she was alive. But thanks to the vets in Jakarta, Muffin back with her family doing well!!
  •
Took my Mom to The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.
  •
    The setting is beautiful.
  •
The building is impressive but the contents are the richest part.
  •
    One of many statues.
  •
There are films, art, artifacts, and so much more. It's very comprehensive.
  •
Part of the Berlin Wall---east side.
  •
On the west side--the butterfly signifying hope of freedom and the flower the love of freedom.
  •
You can tour Air Force One in a huge hangar.
  •
Tail Number 27000 flew seven US Presidents from Nixon to W. Bush.
  •
Just for fun you can pretend you're on a horse ride with RR! There are a lot of fun things for kids (and those who think young!)
  •
There is an exact replica of the Oval Office as Reagan occupied it.
  •
Stunning, peaceful views which you can see from...
  •
...his final resting place. It's really worth the trip if you can make it!
  •
The KFBK day at the Casa Restaurant on the grounds of the Sacramento Children's Home was a great success!
  •
Thanks to all who came to support this great luncheon place. Good food reasonably priced.
  •
Don't forget The Casa for your special gatherings. It's a lovely venue and supports The Children's Home.

My first visit to Aspen and the beauty is absolutely inspirational!
  •
The city is named after the Aspen trees which are plentiful!
  •
A bear sharpened his claws on this one! I was told Aspen has a bit of a problem with bears.
  •
I drove from Denver to Aspen and back...about 4 hours each way and totally worth it! You will see some of the amazing vistas.
  •
Even though it's mild there's still ice as low as the roadway.
  •
The Continental Divide. It's pretty chilly but not freezing. The bikes behind me belong to a couple of Aussie's who took my picture. Can't believe they rode up there!
  •
I finally had to put on a jacket! Still not as cold as I thought it would be.
  •
If you look closely, you'll see a climber in a red shirt scaling this mountain.
  •
Took the gondola up Aspen mountain.
  •
Can see the town of Aspen down below.
  •
    Can't imagine skiing down this!
  •
The Maroon Bells are one of Aspen's most famous vistas.
  •
  •
Driving from Denver to Aspen is full of magnificent views.
  •
Kevin Costner has a home off the road out of Aspen. 50 acres...including a baseball field! You can barely see it from the road.
  •
Lance Armstrong paid 9 million for half a duplex.
  •
The sky is so clear and crisp.
  •
  •
The guy who owns Federal Express has a home here.
  •
CEO of American Airlines lives in Red Mountain.
  •
But with a view like this, you can see why people who can pay around $1500 a square foot! Homes range from 10-25 million.
  •
This is called Red Mountain and the rich and famous own homes here. The real estate here is the most expensive in the nation. Over 40 billionaires own homes in Aspen.
  •
This is Jack Nicholson's home. On the gate are the initials JNLA...a nod to his beloved Lakers. It looks modest, but his home is worth several million dollars.
  •
Many celebrities buy homes in Aspen, despite the high prices. Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter recently sold this home.
  •
Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith are Aspen residents
  •
My editor Judy Farah (right) and I showed up to work in nearly the same outfit. Good we're not going out together!
  •
Some may think I’m drinking the kool aid, but Rush Limbaugh's iced tea is pretty good! I tried the diet raspberry.
  •
The set for U2 at the Oakland Coliseum before the band hit the stage. An impressive set up!
  •
Even more impressive when the show got going. But frankly, the music stands on its own without a lot of bells and whistles...unlike the next band...
  •
The KISS concert at Raley Field brought out a lot of fans...
  •
    Gene Simmons playing the part
  •
They're fun to watch, but most of the music is about the same.
  •
Cool shoes, though! They bring it with the costumes!
  •
and lots of pyrotechnics and staging. Most importantly, a benefit for Hope Productions which is a good thing for Sacramento charities.

Earlier this spring, listener Ken sent this picture of hail this afternoon in Roseville. The first day of June!

Seeing the beautiful Westminster Abbey this morning prompted me to go through some vacation photos.
  •
    The architecture is just spectacular
  •
    The history as incredible
  •
When I saw all the hats at the Royal Wedding it reminded me how often we saw women in hats there!
  •
They just like stuff on their head!
  •
    London has such unique sites
  •
    And fabulous treats
  •
    Delicious tea
  •
    From the grand...
  •
    to the quaint...
  •
    London has it all!
  •
Visited the Sacramento Crisis Nursery. What incredible, needed work they do! Jim, a volunteer, comes to rock babies...40 hours a week.
  •
THe Crisis Nursery is beautifully decorated, clean and fresh! To volunteer or donate: www.kidshome.org or melody.sipes@kidshome.org

At the Oscars, Nicole Kidman's skin was flawless and smooth as glass..she's 43. But even she admits she has a little help with that. On the other hand...
  •
Sandra Bullock who is 46, has shunned Botox, at least for now. Gotta respect that!
  •
Guy Farris from Sac and Company will host an Oscar party this Sunday. Check the afternoon news link for more info.

Friday night's Luau: Husband Kurt Spataro, Me, Dale and Katie Carlson.
  •
The luau was an amazing spread with traditional Hawaiian decorations and dancers. Kitty and Katie Carlson.
  •
Rush and Kathryn pose with some guests at the Luau.
  •
The next night, Saturday was the wedding. Kurt and I greeting Kathryn Limbaugh.
  •
The reception included a fabulous dance band!
  •
Of all the celebrities there, Kurt wanted his picture taken with Al Michaels.
  •
The big surprize of the night was the intimate performance of the legendary Elton John.
  •
Took a trip to the coast of Maine. Portland, Kennebunkport, Bar Harbor, and Camden were our stops, although we spent some brief periods in other quaint cities. Lighthouses abound.
  •
We stayed at different B&B's, but the the flags are everywhere. They line the streets in some cases.
  •
We found the coast of Maine to be intensely patriotic!
  •
Acadia National Park offers some peaceful and stunning views.
  •
Inside Acadia Park there's a teahouse known for its popovers! They were warm, tender, and delicious!
  •
    Down these stairs...
  •
    ...to the rocky coast.
  •
Maine lobster is offered everywhere..from tiny huts and shacks to swanky restaurants.
  •
    Like my bike?
  •
    How about my chair?
  •
Camden is one of the prettiest towns ever with a delightful harbor
  •
    Loved the architecture.
  •
    Some so typically Maine!
  •
There are many parks and park-like areas.
  •
The Maine coast is beautiful, and I'll always remember the lobster, the blueberries, and the romantic lighthouses.

  •
Rush Limbaugh was married June 5 at the historic Breakers Hotel in West Palm Beach. Modeled after an Italian Villa and built in the 1920's, it is one of the most beautiful resorts in the world.
  •
Rush and Kathyn specifically and emphatically requested that no pictures be taken of any of the events at any time. To my knowledge, all complied, which is why these pictures are only of the hotel or taken outside of the events. THere are no photos of the wedding.
  •
Most guests arrived by Friday because that evening there was a luau-themed dinner the night before the formal, black-tie wedding Saturday. We met the rest of Kathryn and Rush's family. Kathryn, or Katie, is lovely, gracious, kind and beautiful.
  •
But first, during the day Friday we had lunch and caught up with some old friends like Stan Atkinson. The Breakers has beautiful golf courses, pool, and beaches which is where some spent the rest of the day. Oh, great shopping, too!
  •
There's a street called Worth Avenue which is much like Rodeo Drive in L.A. Had to take that in! Later that night, a casual but elegant Hawaiian-themed dinner with island-style entertainment. We thought security was tight that night! But...
  •
We hadn't seen anything. The whole hotel basically shut down on Saturday and was buzzing with security. We were in a ceremony room, a massive reception room, a huge dining room with a band and dancing, and then on to an intimate theatre with an incredible performance by Elton John.
  •
The wedding felt like we were inside a cathedral. Fabulous Broadway stars sang selections from Phantom, and other pieces, accompanied by violins. The pastor, in sometimes a humorous ceremony, was Dr. Kenneth Hutcherson, "The Hutch."
  •
At the concert, Elton John got a standing O after every song and he chatted with the crowd between every song. He admitted it seemed odd for someone like him to perform at Rush's wedding, but John said he was "all about building bridges and ending divisiveness."
  •
My husband Kurt and I spent a lot of time with fellow Sacramentans Dale and Katie Carlson, owners of The Sleep Train. Other guests included Rudy Guiliani, Karl Rove, Bill Bennett, Judge Clarence Thomas, Sean Hannity, James Carville and Mary Matalin, to name a few.
  •
The food at every event was absolutely spectacular! Abundant, creative, whimsical and ever-present! Food of all kinds was contantly being passed. Very clever appetizers! Late after the concert servers passed tiny pancakes and mini french toast in maple syrup, among other treats.
  •
When all the festivities were over, we got back to our hotel room for the couple hours of sleep before the early flight and found an Elton John CD on our pillow with a sweet note from Kathryn. Our hosts were so thoughtful in every detail. Simply amazing.
  •
Went to bed very late and had to get up at 5:45 am. Hardly slept but it was worth every minute. The whole weekend was so incredibly elegant and magnificent, and the guests were so beautifully taken care of. It had a real fairy-tale quality to it. Rush is an extremely generous man.

My Dad was buried at Arlington National Cemetery the first week of May. A moving service with flag-draped coffin on a horse-drawn caisson. A very formal service with Taps played by a lone bugler, fired gun salute.
  •
My Dad's gravesite is a short walk away from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A moving tribute under the watchful care of a guard 24/7/365.

Over at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum facility, The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport, is a Wall of Honor.
  •
Situated along the entryway to the Center, the Wall of Honor is a permanent memorial to the thousands of people who have contributed to our aviation and space exploration heritage. Names of honorees are inscribed on the air-foil-shaped wall. My Dad's name!
  •
The Pentagon Memorial is not heavily visited because there isn't any parking. Mostly Pentagon employees come by.
  •
The memorial consists of individual monuments dedicated to the 184 who were killed during the 9/11 attacks. The National Air Force Memorial is in the background.
  •
Each monument has the name engraved at the end, and holds water underneath.
  •
The Air Force Memorial isdedicated to the Men and Women of the United States Air Force and its Heritage Organizations. The Memorial was given to the nation during its formal dedication on October 14, 2006.
  •
The World War II Memorial honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home. THere are monuments to all 50 states.
  •
The memorial opened to the public on April 29, 2004 and was dedicated one month later on May 29. It is located on 17th Street, between Constitution and Independence Avenues, and is flanked by the Washington Monument to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.
  •
Look at the picture above and you can see where this driver broke through the guardrail, on the right side of the culvert, where the people are standing on the road, pointing. The pick-up was traveling about 75 mph from right to left when it crashed through the guardrail. It flipped end-over-end, bounced off and across the culvert outlet and landed right side up on the left side of the culvert, facing the opposite direction from which the driver was traveling. The 22-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger were unhurt except for minor cuts and bruises.
