Today is the first major test for the Watt Avenue Project.
Complaints poured in from drivers after the new stop lights were activated at Watt and Highway 50 three to four weeks ago but officials feel that some changes since then should make the commute in the area easier.
Patrick Carpenter with the Sacramento County Department of Transportation says one of those changes was opening three new lanes along Watt for a total of seven over the freeway.
"We've also coordinated the two new traffic signals to each other and to the other signals on Watt Avenue," Carpenter added.
Those signals have also been linked to the county command center where observers can make changes on the fly.
