A very large donation to Stockton's University of the Pacific has been called one of the largest of its kind to an institute of higher learning in the United States.
School officials announced this morning that the school was given $125 million. It came from the late Robert and Jeanette Powell, whose family members were at the ceremony. The bulk of the money will reportedly go toward scholarships.
The Powells made a fortune in the development business, and the donation was first announced back in 2007, payable upon their death. Robert Powell died in 2007 while Jeannette passed away last December.
