UCD Cop Awarded $38K After Pepper Spray Incident

The ex-UC Davis police officer who was fired for using pepper spray on protesting students will receive more than 38-thousand dollars from the UC system. John Pike is getting the money in a settlement of a workers' compensation claim.

He claimed he suffered depression and anxiety after getting death threats resulting from a video of the 2011 incident which went viral on the Internet. An investigation also determined the pepper-spray incident "should and could have been prevented."
