Two California congressmen are making a bipartisan push for a new reservoir north of Sacramento.
Democrat John Garamendi and Republican Doug LaMalfa have come together for a bill authorizing construction in farmland near Maxwell in Colusa County.
The Sites Reservoir, would be capable of holding up to one point nine million acre feet of water.
The pair say storage is key in helping the state prepare for future droughts.
Total project costs range from $3.5 billion to $4 billion.
Right now, no federal funding is guaranteed. Garamendi tells me he sees state and local -- maybe even private -- money making up the majority of what's needed.
