State Senator Ben Hueso has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The California Highway Patrol says the San Diego Democrat was pulled over around 2:25 this morning after driving his state-issued Ford Fusion the wrong way down 15th Street in Sacramento.
A sobriety test was conducted and he was booked into the county jail about an hour later.
Hueso had attended a Latino Caucus dinner at the Il Fornaio restaurant earlier that evening and was seen in a now-deleted Tweet drinking on the Capitol balcony with other lawmakers after 11 p.m.
He is the fourth Democratic state senator to be arrested this year. The others have been suspended from the Senate.
Through his office, Hueso issued a statement saying he was "profoundly sorry" for "unacceptably poor judgement" and that he'll take responsibility for "any punishments."
That differs from what the Senator said when exiting jail this morning. He told reporters he'd be pursuing his innocence.
Hueso's office referred calls to his chief of staff, Ana Molina-Rodriguez, who did not return repeated telephone and email messages.
