State Flu Death Toll Jumps to 302

The amount of flu deaths in California continue to climb, however the season is showing signs of coming to an end.

The state reports 302 deaths related to the flu in California for this year's flu season, 29 of those in Sacramento County, but Janis Louie with the California Department of Public Health says the tide may be turning based on their "flu monitoring."

"One of the most important things is laboratory testing throughout the state and what percentage of the tests done are positive for flu, and that is going down, which is a good sign.  Things seem to be calming down," she said.

That doesn't mean we're totally out of the woods just yet.

"It's not too late to get vaccinated, because we still are seeing flu activity, it's not totally over, and vaccines can prevent serious illness," Louie advised.
