Spring Commute Headaches Ahead for Highway 50

Spring Commute Headaches Ahead for Highway 50
Expect delays.

Caltrans says it will partially close the W-X section of Highway 50 through Sacramento in May and part of June for a major resurfacing project.

Crews will be working on the elevated section of the freeway between 18th and 24th streets over the two months.

Engineers say the section is now 46 years old and needs a $46 million overhaul.

The closures could cause drivers to divert onto surface streets in East Sacramento or extend their commutes onto other portions of Highway 50, Highway 99, I-5, or Business 80.

The lead contractor is Clinton Myers of Myers and Sons Construction.
He's the son of developer C.C. Myers.

Caltrans is urging commuters to carpool or use light rail. You can check the new Fix50.com website to help calculate delays and see project updates.
