Soutwest Might Start Charging Baggage Fees

Sacramento's largest air-carrier could be ready to punch travelers right in the pocket book.

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly has floated the idea the airline will start charging baggage fees.

Southwest and Jet Blue are the last big airlines to succumb to the unpopular policy of dinging passengers for luggage.

Airline experts says Southwest is missing out on tens of millions of dollars a year in revenue by continuing to fly bags free of charge.

But their 'bags-fly-free' approach has paid off, as the capacity on Southwest flights continues to be 10 percent higher than other airlines.

Southwest subsidiary, Airtran, already had bag fees in place when bought by Southwest.

But those fees are said to be on their way out when Southwest fully integrates Airtran into the company.
