Another foreign food company is building a plant in West Sacramento.
Shinmei Limited of Japan -- a rice distributor -- has announced its moving into the city's Southport Business Park -- the same site that's now home to seasoning maker Nippon Shokken. What's the draw?
"We're next to the airport, the seaport -- here at the Port of Sacramento, rail system, highways," Mayor Christopher Cabaldon said.
Shinmei will be making rice buns, a gluten-free option to what you make a burger with.
"We will use locally grown California rice as the main ingredient," President Mitsuzo Fujio said via translator.
The facility is expected to open in June and could one day employ 500 people.
