Sea Lion Pup Spotted in San Joaquin Valley Now Safely Recovering

A sea lion pup that wandered way off course into the San Joaquin Valley is safely recovering.

Officials with the Marin Mammal Center in Marin County say the wayward pup, named Hoppie, is now in the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge in Los Banos after apparently swimming about a hundred miles up the San Joaquin River.

Hoppie was reportedly underweight and malnourished when he was rescued and transported to the rehabilitation center.

Officials say he'll need to gain a healthy amount of weight before he can be returned to the wild.
