San Joaquin County Comes Out Strong Against Delta Tunnels Plan

San Joaquin County has come out strong against Governor Jerry Brown's twin tunnels plan.

The Board of Supervisors hired consultants to go over the 40,000 pages of the Bay Delta Conservation Plan and their resulting picture is pretty grim.

Members question the $25 billion pricetag as well as the economic impacts of lost farmland and argue the whole thing can basically be seen as a water grab.

Chairman Bob Elliot says certain words kept showing up.

"Inappropriate. Inadequate. Lack of. Incorrect. Inconsistent. Unreadable. Vague," he said.

The county's comments join 8,500 others that the state will need to respond to.

Supporters say the 40-foot-tunnels will reduce the number of fish sucked into current pumps. The BDCP calls for 100,000 acres of new habitat.
