Teams and cyclists competing in the Amgen Tour of California are starting to arrive in Sacramento. Here's BMC Racing Team unpacking their gear. Amgen kicks off with a gala dinner at Memorial Auditorium Friday night. Stage 1 starts and ends in downtown Sacramento on Sunday. Stage 2 is a time trial that's set for Monday in Folsom.

Sacramento officials are gearing up for the start of this weekend's Amgen Tour of California bicycle race.

It's a big weekend for cyclists, but might turn into a bit of a headache for motorists.

Stage One begins and ends at the State Capitol on Sunday morning with several downtown street closures in the area.

The City of Sacramento and Sacramento Police are asking drivers to plan ahead, especially with the ongoing Fix 50 highway work.

Tenth Street will be closed between N and L streets beginning at 7 p.m. Friday through 11 p.m. Sunday. On Sunday, which is race day, L between 9th and 15th streets will be closed.

Before and during the event, on-street parking downtown will be limited as approximately 600 on-street parking spaces will be closed down and posted with "no parking" until Sunday evening.

Vehicles parked in the restricted areas will be towed at the owner's expense. Get more information about street closures, here.

The 123-mile First Stage will take cyclists along Garden Highway into Sutter County, then through Lincoln, Auburn, along Highway 49, and then along White Rock, Grant Line and Jackson Roads and Folsom Boulevard back into downtown.

On Monday, a number of Streets will be closed in Folsom for Stage 2 of the race.

Officials say that closures in Folsom will begin at 9 a.m. Monday and they will remain closed through 4:30 p.m. Rainbow Bridge and Folsom Lake Crossing will be closed the entire time. Lake Natomas crossing will have one lane open to motorists traveling in each direction.

The City of Folsom will have a call center open for questions regarding road closures in the area and suggested alternate routes. You can reach the call center at 916.608.6222.
