Piles of rubble now lie where parts of Sacramento's Downtown Plaza once stood.
75,000 to 80,000 tons of concrete and 4,000 tons of steel are being brought down by crews from Turner Construction.
"We're hoping to have most of this all done by October," Project Manager Gary Ralls said.
Ralls says there's a good chance they will.
"We're on schedule and doing very well. Things are going as planned," he said.
Crews are now shredding materials, then separating the ADC and metals.
They'll soon be getting help from a giant excavator that arrived on site Thursday.
"It has a really long reach and allows them to sit back at a safe distance and tear the building down in pieces," he said.
