Local VA Hospitals Feel Pressure to Perform

Our local VA hospitals are feeling some pressure from the national backlash over substandard care.

There are no Northern California facilities on the list of 26 being investigated nationwide, but area Director David Stockwell says he still feels under the microscope. He says it's a good thing, because honestly, they get complaints every day.

"Some are founded and some are unfounded as far as the concerns," Stockwell said.

Our partners at News10 recently reported on an hours-long prescription delay at the Mather VA hospital and there have been allegations of staffing issues in the past.

Stockwell says they've been solving them and that over the last year "four times out of 2,812 did we have to cancel a surgery," he said.

The wait time for an elective procedure is now 45 days. Less than the national VA average.
