The Sacramento area is home to a few events that allow residents to honor and remember those lost on the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
When: 8 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11
Where: Renaissance Tower, 801 K St.
What: This event honors the 343 firefighters of FDNY that paid the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. Participants will place the name of a Fallen Brother (over their own name) on the back of their turnout coat and carry it 110 floors to the roof. All proceeds from the climb will benefit the FDNY Widows and Children's Fund.
When: Sept. 7 - Sept. 11
Where: Corner of Jefferson and South River Rd, West Sacramento
What: A memorial is set up featuring more than 500 American flags. At the "9-11 Memorial and Flag Tribute" a bugler will blow taps at 5:46 a.m., 6:03 a.m., 6:13 a.m., and 7:10 a.m., on Sept. 11.
When: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11
Where: Cal Expo
What: Central to the exhibit is a beautiful fountain including a granite ball inscribed with all of the names of the September 11 victims. Additional features include a carillon bell tower, reflections of the World Trade Center, and individual memorials to Flight #77 which crashed into the Pentagon and Flight #93 aborted in a field in Pennsylvania. Cal Expo's memorial will be open to the public on Wednesday. Guests can park in any lot and enter through the main gate.
