The flu continues to take a serious toll in California.
Health officials say the number of deaths in Sacramento County alone is now at 21 with three more deaths since just last week.
That compares to 16 deaths during the same time period last year.
More concerning is that the deaths come primarily in people under the age of 65, since that group typically is least affected by the flu.
County officials say it's not too late to get vaccinated for the flu. A free flu shot clinic will be held Thursday from noon to 3 p.m. at 7000 65th Street in Sacramento.
