Five Kids Accused of Setting Fire at North Avenue Elementary

Five juveniles are in hot water after allegedly setting a fire at a Del Paso Heights elementary school.

Fire units responded to North Avenue Elementary School around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Neighbors alerted the fire department of the blaze and also led to the apprehension of the juveniles.

Fire officials say the blaze was intentionally set next to the building and the flames extended into a classroom.

Five juveniles were apprehended in connection with the fire.

The fire was contained to just one building at the school, but damage is estimated to be in the thousands of dollars.

The school is largely unoccupied and vulnerable to vandalism, said Sacramento Metro Fire Department Battalion Chief Shawn Perry.

No word on whether the juveniles are still in custody or if they were released to their parents and no word yet on the charges they may be facing.

No motive for the arson has been released.
