Fire officials in the Sacramento area want to be better prepared for all sorts of disasters, so they're looking to create a big training center near Mather Field, it's in the early stages of construction now. Â
Sacramento City Fire, Sac Metro Fire, and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services teaming up to make it happen. Their combined group is called the California Fire & Rescue Training Authority.Â
Already the authority has spent $13 million on the project, but officials say it'll take up to $56 millions to re-create big-scale disaster scenarios from plane crashes, to terror attacks and earthquakes on 53-acres. Â They're looking for grants to get it finished.
