Altered W-X Plans May Not Prevent Delays

Altered W-X Plans May Not Prevent Delays

Caltrans has changed the plans, but we may still see one hour delays during construction on the W-X.

Even with more lanes and fewer ramp closures, drivers can still expect big backups unless people ride-share or find new routes to work. There are just too may cars to squeeze through a smaller Highway 50.

"We average around 200,000 vehicles a day, both Eastbound and Westbound," estimated Caltrans spokesman Dennis Keaton.

Keaton added that the hour wait is a "worst case scenario." The city is getting prepared, and will put extra traffic cops downtown,

"We're even talking about going in in advance and changing some of the signal timing," said Public Works Director Jerry Way.

State and local employers are being asked to work with their workers about possible schedule changes.

Construction kicks off April 22nd.
