UPDATE, Tuesday July 16: The arraignment of 20-year-old Zachary Kachmar, who arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Rocklin father Saturday night, was continued for two weeks because the suspect may have acted in self-defense.
The Placer County District Attorney's office is reviewing the Rocklin Police Department report on circumstances leading up to the death of 51-year-old Robert Vickney Jr. at a party.
Kachmar's scheduled arraignment Tuesday was rescheduled for July 29 in Placer County Superior Court. He was set to be released Tuesday on his own recognizance.
UPDATE: Police released the victim's name Monday. He is Robert Earl Vickney, Jr. and he lived at the home where he was found.
ROCKLIN, Calif. -- Rocklin had its first homicide in six years this weekend, police said.
At about 10 p.m. on Saturday a call came in about a stabbing in one of the city's newer subdivisions, near Blue Oaks and Sunset boulevards, police said.
Officers arrived at the 6200 block of Swan Court where they found a 51-year-old male victim bleeding from his chest, Rocklin Police Captain Lon Milka said.
The victim was stabbed once in the chest, allegedly by 20-year-old Zachary Kachmar, a friend of the victim's son who was attending a party at their home.
The victim was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Milka said.
There was a barbecue at the home that night, and many of the guests had already left for the evening, Milka said. At some point, an argument broke out.
Officials are still not sure what the argument was about. Interviews are still being conducted in order to find out.
The victim was stabbed with a pocket knife that Kachmar allegedly brought with him to the party.
Police are calling the homicide shocking, but an isolated incident.
Kachmar was booked into Placer County Jail and is not eligible for bail. Rocklin Police are not releasing the name of the victim at this time.
