Sacramento Fire Crews Battled 100-Acre Fire

UPDATE: 1:45 pm, Friday

SACRAMENTO -- Crews battled a brush fire along the American River late Thursday afternoon.

The fire was located at the American River Parkway, near Cal Expo close to the Costco on Expo. As the flames scorched about 100 acres of heavy brush, the fire produced smoke that could be seen for miles.

Sacramento Fire Department crews had trouble accessing the fire at first. At the peak of the incident there were 55 units fighting the blaze, which is about 150 firefighters total, according to Assistant Chief Niko King.

SACRAMENTO -- A grass fire is burning near the Cap City Freeway near the levy. It appears to have started near 33rd and C streets.

News 10 is reporting that the Sacramento Fire Department sent a chopper to do water drops along with ground crews to fight the blaze.

The fire has reportedly burned at least 5 acres.
