A diabetes diagnosis doesn’t have to slow you down – elite Ironman and triathalete and three-time member of the U.S. National Triathlon Team Jay Hewitt has proved that.
Hewitt will be speaking about how to manage diabetes while still living your life to the fullest on Nov. 16, at Clunie Community Center's Grand Hall in McKinley Park for “Get Involved with Diabetes, Health and Community” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The American Diabetes Association is rallying with Sacramento residents to take action and stop the disease. The event will include information on healthy living, individual medication consultations, diabetes education and health screenings.
In 2002, Hewitt competed in his first Ironman, 10 years after his diabetes diagnosis. Since then he has competed in 14 more Ironman races and is a world champion athlete.
Hewitt will be available for questions throughout the event. When he isn’t racing, he’s an advocate in the fight against diabetes.
