Sac County Flu Death Toll at 18, Vaccinations Urged

More flu deaths in Sacramento County.

Health officials said today 18 people have now died of influenza and 84 others are hospitalized in intensive care units at local hospitals.

Those who died were between 18 and 64 and some did not have underlying conditions and were otherwise healthy.

Three strains of flu are currently circulating in Sacramento County - H1N1, Influenza A and Influenza B. 

Health officials are urging you to get a flu shot if you haven't already done so at your doctor's office or local pharmacy.

Sacramento State has been vaccinating their students.  More than 2,700 have been vaccinated for the flu so far and school officials hope to continue that as the new spring semester begins.  Flu shots are free for Sac State students and $15 for faculty and staff and the flu shots are offered daily.

Anthem Blue Cross is also offering a free flu vaccine clinic at the state Capitol on Wednesday from noon-4p  They will be given in Room 127 while supplies last.

So far, there have been more than 95 confirmed deaths statewide.  16 people died from flu in all of 2013.
